Corneal topography
2. Corneal Topography
This is a measurement of the corneal curvature and helps your surgeon choose your IOL parameters |

UCVA
3. Refraction before the dilating eye drops
The amount of vision correction necessary will be measured

IOP
4. Intraocular pressure measurement
A high intraocular pressure reading may indicate glaucoma, and is a part of any general eye check-up

Eye dilating
5. Eye dilation
Dilation (widening) of the pupil is important so doctors can check the health of the inside of the eye. It takes 30 minutes for the drops to work and they will last 4-6 hours. While your pupils are dilated, you may experience temporary light sensitivity and blurry vision. |

Refraction
6. Refraction after the dilating eye drops
We check the refractive error once again to make sure that we get the same measurements as we did at first. |

Examination with a doctor
7. Examination with the doctor
Your surgeon will thoroughly examine the cataract and the overall health of your eyes, including the retina, to determine if cataract surgery is right for you.
Possible scenarios for discussion with your surgeon before having cataract surgery:
- Aside from the cataracts, you have healthy eyes with an average risk of side effects and can do cataract surgery. You can then make an appointment for the surgery. |
- You may be a candidate surgery but you have an infection, glaucoma or a retinal problem. You may have to undergo other treatment before you are cleared for surgery. |
8. Another eye examination by a specialist (if needed) |
9. Biometry measurements
After you decide to have the cataract surgery, we will take additional measurements of the length of your eye. These measurements are necessary to order the IOL that will give you clear vision after the surgery. |
